Faith & knowledge

You need to trust the forecast, and have a good knowledge of local conditions to bet for a good day at Esmelle last sunday. Tomi, Luis, Jesus and Manel took the chance and this was their reward.

No wind, no fun.

No wind these days at Ferrol (the pic was taken a week ago at Cabañas). I'm spending free moments in board repairs. I had a chat yesterday with Eloy, he is back into windsurfing, and I'm happy for him, he's got magic not only when shooting with his camera, but when he surfs a wave too.
May the wind come back soon!

Wind was offshore, very light and gusty. Not more than a two feet high wave breaking over the sand. But sailing at this bay can be an unique experience. Blue skies, white sand, and the water's turquoise perfection. Tomi, Iñaki, Carlos and me enjoyed it this afternoon.

Broken nose. Proa rota.

My AHD FreeDiamond 70 has her nose badly broken. I noticed the broken nose while I was sailing, so I had to get out of the water shortly after launching. Now I have to let the water pour outside the board & then repair it. So two of my three boards are under repairs, what a disaster! I have no pics of todays session, but I have rescued this one I took last sunday, enjoy the scene.

  A well deserved rest?

Turbofan

Northeasterly turbofan is still ON, and I enjoyed a good session powered up on my 5.4. I'm getting used to the danger area, even starting to like the big chop zone created by the strong tide. I am using a small beach at the south side of the estuary to stop once in a while. Today I kept trying the wymaroos, still need to do lots of them...

Before launching. Antes de salir.

The small beach.

Took this clip of paradise last Saturday. Enjoy.

Overfinned.

Another strong NE-ly day at the danger zone, sailed overpowered and overfinned for an hour, most of the time in survival mode. I used the 25cm wave fin, and the 22cm would have allowed much more board control. Its incredible what a difference 3cm can make. (OK, this one is for the ladies :-). Hope you like this picture I took last saturday at Esmelle. Its incredible to have this paradise 10 minutes away from home! Wish you all good conditions wherever you are.

Back to danger area. De vuelta en la zona hostil.

La previsión para hoy era fuerte. NE 7-8.
Today's forecast was strong (7-8 BFT) NE winds. My board choice proved to be wrong, and it was difficult to control the big freeride board over the 1 meter chop. I tried my best for half an hour, and then returned to the pier while I & my kit were still OK.
My cousin Chus sent me a nice kitesurfing clip recorded at Doniños beach. If you want to give kitesurfing a try, take some lessons at a good school and be very careful. That sport can be dangerous.
Our friend Diego, from Fuerteventura, sent me this clip of he and his mates sailing at the island local spots. He has also joined the Forward Loop Challenge. We (you) can do it!

 Launch zone
 It got stronger than this...

It would have been wise to sail back and forth here.

I spent the day with my family at a near beach called Cabañas. Unfortunately the beach was chosen because there was a good chance of not being bothered by the wind! The wind was light but I could enjoy some fast reaches when gusts came over. Good wind mates.

Missing my limousine.

I'm missing my raceboard. Today conditions were good for cruising with my 8.5m.

But it is pouring all the water it had inside. Once dry I'll have to try to repair the holes.

Meanwhile, the pros are bored at Hookipa. So they are checking their jumps height when going for backloops. Enjoy the video.

A por el forward II. Let's rotate II.

Still quite obsessed with going round and get the forward loop completed. I've found a good blog about it, and I have put together a few clips here that are helping me. Before trying the forward loop you have to be able to jump properly, and get psyched to break the mental barrier.

Viejos amigos. Old friends.

Another powered up day at Caranza. It was great to see some old friends, like the guy who sold me my first windsurf kit, Luis Taboada, and many more friends who enjoyed today great conditions, a solid force 5-6, sun, and cold water! Miliet and me keep trying those forward loops using the Remko de Weerd method (sometimes). He does much better than me, I always leave the board behind, I have to work on that. By the way, does anybody know where the Remko de Weerd video is? It has been removed from youtube.
I'm uploading a short clip of Miliet move to vimeo, please standby for me publishing it here. Good winds!

Miliet sacó algunos wymaroo/loops.
